In May Tower Hamlets will elect an executive mayor as well as local councillors. The Mayor holds real power in Tower Hamlets and is not some ceremonial figure. They set the council's strategy and its budget. Councillors in Tower Hamlets have limited opportunities to overturn the Mayor's decisions unless a 'super-majority' of councillors vote against them.

I believe it is important that the Mayor is more accountable to councillors and to the public. Multiple reports have found decision making concentrated around the Mayor and their inner circle. I believe Tower Hamlets Council should be more open to scrutiny and cross-party co-operation without the Mayor exercising so much power.

I am running to make local politics more open. That means listening to you.

So, please, let me know what you think of the state of Tower Hamlets below.
